The importance of resilience in our built environment cannot be overstated. 2024 and 2023 saw the highest number of billion-dollar disasters on record in U.S. history (NOAA). The increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, wildfires, floods and heat waves can disrupt critical infrastructure, endanger lives and damage property. Our built environment must be designed, constructed and operated to mitigate risk and sustain our communities.
USGBC works to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated — resilience is a clear extension of this work. We know that more sustainable buildings are the cornerstone to enhancing community resilience. Join us to discuss leading-edge examples, best practices and USGBC tools and resources to support your resilience goals.
This dynamic forum will feature important discussions on Resilience Hubs and Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS)—two powerful tools for strengthening communities in the face of climate change. We’ll explore how cities can adapt to extreme weather events, reduce emissions, and ensure equitable access to safe, energy-efficient spaces. Learn how resilience hubs can serve as community anchors during emergencies and how BEPS policies drive sustainable building practices that benefit everyone. This event brings together local leaders, green building & sustainability professionals, and advocates to chart a path toward a thriving, climate-resilient future.
Maryland’s cities, including Baltimore, stand as critical case studies in resilience. By examining their unique experiences, we can draw valuable insights into effective strategies for urban planning and disaster preparedness. Baltimore, with its rich history and diverse communities, offers lessons in addressing environmental challenges while fostering social equity and economic stability.
USGBC’s Building Transformation Forums convene industry leaders, practitioners, and sustainability professionals to learn and engage around specific, locally relevant topics.
