Event Takeaways: Decarbonizing DC

A networking event with discussions on finance, transportation, and complexity in management and infrastructural transformation.

On October 16, 2024, the Building Innovation Hub, a program of IMT, in partnership with the architecture firm HOK hosted a networking event bringing together over 130 industry leaders in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Panel summaries

The PechaKucha-style presentations provided short case study examples and allowed time for audience questions and further discussion.

  • The Finance panel, moderated by Yolanda Bonner of IMT’s Building Innovation Hub, highlighted the pervasiveness of carbon-intensive investments in the economy and dissected the role of green finance in funding sustainable transitions.
  • The Electrification panel, moderated by Anica Landreneau, discussed examples of recent DC projects.
  • The Complex Challenges panel, moderated by Fernando Arias of HITT, dove deep into the implications of intertwined economic, social, and environmental systems, and the role of systemic thinking in the path to decarbonization.

The event featured numerous case studies of successful decarbonization projects in the Capital Region and beyond. Speaker slides are available by request. Email admin@buildinginnovationhub.org.

Thank you to our sponsors!

The event was graciously hosted by the globally recognized architecture/design firm HOK, providing an apt backdrop for our forward-thinking panels.  The event’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our four sponsors. A sincere thank you to HITT, GHT, GreenGen and Insite.
