Overview
Owners of buildings covered by Maryland’s Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) will need to have their June 1, 2026 benchmarking reports (calendar year 2025 data) third-party verified. While benchmarking and reporting data is an annual requirement, third-party verification of that benchmarking data is required every five years to ensure accuracy of the data. Early preparation for this requirement will go a long way toward seamless compliance. You can use the Hub’s downloadable sample request for proposal (RFP) to help with hiring a vendor, and this companion webpage helps you walk through the process.
Note: this guide is intended for Maryland BEPS covered buildings that are located outside of Montgomery County. Buildings in Montgomery County are subject to separate benchmarking and verification requirements.
